SOAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organized for the purpose of introducing the fields of aviation and aerospace to elementary, middle school, high school and college students through Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.), focused on curriculum and programs structured and developed in collaboration with professional educators.
Welcome! Thanks for visiting the web site of the Southern Oregon Air Academy.
SOAA is located at the airport in Grants Pass, Oregon. The idea for an educational experience built around aviation was introduced in 2015. Over the next several years students from middle schools in the Grants Pass area were invited to a “summer camp” where they participated in a hands-on week of immersion in the many fields that make up the aviation and aerospace industries. The success of the initial years’ camps, in conjunction with explosive growth that is projected for aviation over the next 20 years, has now led to the creation of the non-profit Southern Oregon Air Academy organization.
In Spring 2018 we will begin accepting summer camp applications. Three camps are scheduled to be held at the Grants Pass Airport: one for Grants Pass area students, another for Illinois Valley students, and a third for Phoenix-Talent students. In the Fall of 2018 our program will expand to include an after-school program for middle school students from across the greater Rogue Valley area. In Fall 2019, high school students will be afforded an opportunity to participate in TeenFlight, a two-year long program where students build a plane from scratch and sell it on the open market.
We invite you to visit our site periodically. More information on curriculum and dates will be posted as available.
